Scholarship Winners

Three MTEF participants were selected this spring to receive Hentzen Scholarships. The rewards honor Herbert D. Hentzen, Jr., a longtime MTEF board member and former treasurer, who died in 2021. Applicants are judged on academics, community service, participation in tennis and intent to pursue post­high school education in a STEM subject, business or education. Chosen from a pool of nine applicants, Marissa Jones, Griffin McGarry and Grayson Munns each will receive a $2,000 grant to be paid to the college or university of their choosing. Jones, who graduated from Nicolet High School in Glendale, has been an MTEF participant since she was 8. She is attending Howard University, majoring in international affairs with the dream of becoming a diplomat or investment banker. As a high school student, her academic, athletic, extra­curricular and community service achievements were outstanding. In addition to maintaining a 3.94 GPA, Jones was a member of the girls varsity tennis team (co­captain her senior year), the JV track and field team, student council, symphonic band, pit orchestra, prom planning committee, Spanish club, Black student union and the Black art appreciation club. Her community service included three summers as an MTEF junior coach, yearly volunteer participation in the Salvation Army’s Christmas campaign, volunteering with Project Kindred and a stint as a restorative justice advocate through Marquette University. McGarry graduated from Ronald Reagan High School at the top of his 343 member class. He’s now attending the University of Wisconsin­Milwaukee where he’s majoring in kinesiology. He played boys tennis throughout high school, starting out on the
