Frequently Asked Questions
The Milwaukee Tennis & Education Foundation's Summer Tennis & Reading Program serves Milwaukee Residents between the ages of 9 and 16. We cannot make exceptions to the residency or age requirements.
QuickStart Tennis is offered to all children 5-8 years old. For specific QuickStart times, please contact the MTEF office at (414) 442-8195.
While it costs MTEF about $70 per child per week to run our summer program, the program is absolutely FREE to any participant.
MTEF has two locations this summer - Sherman Park and Kosciuszko Park.
Sherman Park has a morning session (9 AM - 12 NOON) and afternoon session (1 PM - 4PM), while Kosciuszko has only a morning session (9AM - 12 NOON).
MTEF does not provide any transportation, but many of our sites are accessible via public transportation. We do provide transportation to and from Jr. Team Tennis matches.
Children should wear sneakers and athletic clothing (shorts, t-shirt, etc.). Also, please ensure that your child has whatever sun protection he or she needs.
MTEF provides all tennis equipment and reading material, but children may bring their own racquets or books if they would like to. Make sure to clearly label any personal items you bring.
MTEF provides water at all sites, though children are welcome to bring their own water bottles. Participants are provided with a free lunch. Feel free to bring a snack if you think you will want one.
It depends on the day and the time. Each site has classroom and gym space that may be used to provide programming in the case of rain. Please ensure that your child has a way to get home or a place to go if rain cancellation occurs. Contact your child's site leader with any questions regarding rain cancellation.
Because of the demand for this program, attendance is required for all confirmed sessions. If your child cannot attend a session he or she is registered for, please contact the MTEF office as soon as possible at (414) 442-8195 so that another child can be given the space.

Charlee Goodman
8th Grade First Serve Participant
Charlee wants to be an architect when she grows up; first of all, she wants to attend the University of Pennsylvania. Lofty ambitions for a young lady who hasn’t even graduated from the 8th grade yet! Once you get to know Charlee a little better, you might not want to bet against her.
“Signing Charlee up for MTEF is one of the best things that has happened to her,” stated Charlee’s mom, Vanessa Goodman. “The First Serve program has improved Charlee’s self-esteem, confidence, and social skills, not to mention how much her tennis has improved.”
