proamhomeThe MTEF NJTL Regional Rally Weekend was held Friday, July 24 2009 and Saturday, July 25, 2009.  The weekend featured two former champions. Former tennis greats Gene Mayer and Luke Jensen were in Milwaukee to headline MTEF’s NJTL Rally Weekend.  The four-event, two-day affair will kicked-off on Friday morning with a High Performance Junior Clinic, continued Friday evening with a Pro-Am doubles round robin tournament & reception, reconvened Saturday with a nine-court clinic at Milwaukee Country Club, and concluded with a free 250 participant community-wide NJTL Rally at Merrill Park Saturday afternoon.

MTEF’s High Performance Junior Clinic was held from 10am-1pm on Friday at the beautiful Milwaukee Country Club courts.  In addition to Mayer and Jensen, the clinic featured two of Wisconsin’s UPTA Master Professionals, Rick Vetter and Jay Massart.  Players, both children and adults, had the opportunity to learn all aspects of the game from two world class players.

proam2The NJTL Pro-Am & Reception, presented by Prince and sponsored by Milwaukee Country Club members Frank & Kathleen Thometz and Morgan Stanley, offered a fun-filled evening for both spectators and players.  In addition to Gene Mayer and Luke Jensen, ten other local tennis professionals paired up with twelve amateurs for an exciting evening of doubles, prizes, and fun. Coinciding with the Pro-Am was a reception that gave everyone the opportunity to watch exciting pro-am doubles, socialize, and learn more about MTEF.

On Saturday, Mayer and Jensen joined forces with seven local tennis professionals to conduct a nine-court tennis clinic from 8:30-12:30pm.  The 17th Annual Super Saturday Clinic has featured world class tennis players Stan Smith, Vijay Amitraj, Mayer, and former Illinois Head Men’s Tennis Coach, Craig Tiley.  In addition to Jensen and Mayer, this year’s event featured Rick Vetter, Scott Cornehls, Jon Calvillo, and Jeff Aranda, just to name a few.

The highlight of the weekend was the community-wide 5th Annual NJTL Rally from 1:30-4:30 at Merrill Park, which was open to children and adults of all ages and ability levels.  The free event included approximately 90 volunteers, 250 children from MTEF’s summer program, as well as participants from other NJTL chapters throughout the Midwest.  Rally participants received a free t-shirt, lunch and prizes.

Did is a word of achievement, Won’t is a word of retreat, Might is a word of bereavement, Can’t is a word of defeat, Ought is a word of duty, Try is a word each hour, Will is a word of beauty, Can is a word of power.”
