The Mayor’s Cup is part of MTEF’s vision to build social cohesion through dedicated youth programs, utilizing relationships that MTEF has with the residents of Sherman Park and the overall Milwaukee community. Relationships forged on the active use of public green space between people of diverse economic backgrounds and ethnically and racially diverse people, will eventually lead to better educated children, healthier family lifestyles, positive conflict resolution skills, and, eventually, higher education and career attainment.
Through the experience in the summer-ending Mayor’s Cup Metro Junior Tournament & Picnic, we introduce young people from Sherman Park to other young leaders from the Greater Milwaukee community who participated in similar programs across the City. The youngsters who take part in our programs, and in the tournament, are made up of various nationalities, races, and color. Through the positive experiences they have in our programs, they will help spread peace and better understanding in their communities and wherever life may take them.

“The life of every man is a diary in which he means to write one story, and writes another; and his humblest hour is when he compares the volume as it is with what he had hoped to make it.”-James M. Barrie

Charlee Goodman
8th Grade First Serve Participant
Charlee wants to be an architect when she grows up; first of all, she wants to attend the University of Pennsylvania. Lofty ambitions for a young lady who hasn’t even graduated from the 8th grade yet! Once you get to know Charlee a little better, you might not want to bet against her.
“Signing Charlee up for MTEF is one of the best things that has happened to her,” stated Charlee’s mom, Vanessa Goodman. “The First Serve program has improved Charlee’s self-esteem, confidence, and social skills, not to mention how much her tennis has improved.”
