The First Serve National Student Athlete Competition is an 11-month, points-based competition for First Serve students in 5th through 10th grade. Students receive points based on school report cards and tennis tournament results during the competition year.  The world’s best tennis players motivate the competitors and, at the end of the year, the male and female student with the most points each win a $5,000 college scholarship fund, an all-expense paid trip to the US Open, and the title of “First Serve Student Athlete of the Year.”  Second and third place finishers receive $2,500 and $1,000 scholarships, respectively.

Players get academic points for grades in quarterly school report cards.  Only four letter grades are counted per report card in the following subject areas: Mathematics, Science, English, and Social Studies. Students receiving an A+/A/A- get 400 points per quarter. Those receiving B+/B/B-receive 300 points. Students receiving a C+/C/C- get 50 points.

While the Student Athlete Competition is weighted towards academic success, the competition also includes points for competing in and winning tennis tournaments. Players receive 10 points for every tournament entered and 50 points for every tournament won.

Quote of the Day

“I know I could never forgive myself if I elected to live without humane purpose, without trying to help the poor and unfortunate, without recognizing that perhaps the purest joy in life comes from helping others.”
