Arthur Ashe Essay Contest
The Milwaukee Tennis & Education Foundation is a proud partner of the 2009 USTA NJTL Arthur Ashe Essay Contest. This citywide contest is open to all NJTL TEAM participants and is a requirement for all children and organizations participating in the After-School TEAM Program and Summer Program.

MTEF participants are competing against children from over 550 nationwide NJTL chapters.
This year's contest, which ended July 10th, required youngsters to analyze the famous Ashe quote, "From what we get we make a living: what we give, however, makes a life." Tutors assist youngsters by showing the Ashe video, "Citizen of the World," as well as helping them in the research and composition of their essays by learning about Ashe, understanding the quote, and then relating it to their own lives. MTEF utilizes four books on Arthur Ashe as a part of our curriculum: "Arthur Ashe, Athlete and Activist Journey to Freedom", "Young Arthur Ashe - Brave Champion", "Daddy and Me" and "Arthur Ashe: Tennis Great."
The USTA also provides a
Guide to Conducting an Essay Contest to help with the planning and execution of the contest. Arthur Ashe was one of tennis' greatest ambassadors both on and off the court. To learn more about Arthur Ashe,
