2012 Summer Jr. Team Tennis

As popular as tennis is, there are literally millions of people who have yet to be introduced to the game and many others who will play more often, if given the opportunity. As Milwaukee’s official Community Tennis Association (CTA), and National Junior Tennis League (NJTL) Chapter, MTEF assists in the delivery, support, and integration of tennis programs in this community.
Jr. Team Tennis (JTT) is the largest junior recreational tennis league in the United States with over 400,000 participants nation-wide and over 35,000 players in the Midwest Section. JTT is often compared to Little League Baseball, as the program offers children the opportunity to develop their individual and team tennis skills in a fun, yet competitive atmosphere. The Milwaukee league, with its 850 players, is one of the largest local summer leagues in the Midwest Section. At the conclusion of the summer league, winning division teams have the opportunity to advance in district and sectional playoffs.

Tyler
Haanen wants to be an engineer when he grows up, and if he has his way, tennis
and MTEF will help him attain his goal.
Currently a senior at Rufus King High School, Haanen just started
playing tennis three and a half years ago as something to do during the summer
months.
“Tyler’s
story is pretty amazing,” said MTEF executive director, Jay Massart. “He joins our program the summer before his
freshman year in high school having never played tennis before, because he
wants to make the King tennis team, and now just four years later he’s the
second best player in our program and he will play either first or second
singles on the varsity tennis team this spring.”
