NJTL TEAM Program

The Milwaukee Tennis & Education Foundation is a registered USTA NJTL Tennis Chapter (# 1783) and an official First Serve Chapter.

Founded by Arthur Ashe, Charlie Pasarell and Sheridan Snyder in 1969, USTA National Junior Tennis League (NJTL) is a network of community-driven organizations dedicated to introducing as many youngsters as possible to the lifetime sport of tennis.

First Serve, an internationally recognized youth empowerment organization, has established strategic alliances with the major organizations of professional tennis, along with institutes of higher learning, to develop a network of benefits for qualified tennis and education programs
throughout the United States.  In addition to benefiting from First Serve's award-winning Life Skills Curriculum, developed by a core group of individuals from Stanford University and considered the most comprehensive life skills curriculum created for any sport, MTEF will receive free training and on-going support for educators and tennis instructors and on an on-going basis.

MTEF's NJTL TEAM Youth program is a neighborhood-based, free program that combines education, leadership, and teamwork with the sport of tennis.  The TEAM program serves approximately 4,200 at-risk children annually in grades 3-9 at strategically located schools, parks and youth-serving organizations.  Children participate three days per week during the school year and five days a week in the summer.

TEAM strives to provide children with a healthy outlet, physically, mentally and emotionally. This outlet will keep children off city streets and engaged in tennis and other productive activities that instill pride and discipline. Incorporating life skills into each tennis lesson will help participants make choices that enhance rather than endanger their lives.

Through partnerships with the MPS Recreation Department and schools/youth-serving facility providers, TEAM delivers a citywide neighborhood-based grassroots tennis and education program. For information on how your organization or school can become a TEAM site please view our MTEF "What it Takes" document.

In the past five years the NJTL TEAM program has been offered to over 40 youth-serving organizations and schools, reaching 14,200 deserving children.  Below is a list of current TEAM sites. To see exact days and locations click here to see our Event Calendar.
