Featuring Gene Mayer

Pro-Am & Reception Registration Form

The 3rd Annual MTEF NJTL Pro-Am & Reception was held Friday, July 25 at 5:00 p.m. at the Milwaukee Country Club in River Hills.  The fundraising event kicked off a weekend's worth of tennis activities for the foundation, raising money for MTEF's TEAM youth program.  This year's guest professional was tennis great Gene Mayer. Mayer revolutionized tennis in 1980 with his two-handed stroke off the forehand and backhand.  A former world top 10 player from 1979-1984, Mayer won 14 major events in his career, earning him a No. 4 world ranking from 1980-1982.  During that time he posted wins over Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Ivan Lendl and Boris Becker.

Tennis enthusiasts had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to partner with former Professional Tennis Player Gene Mayer for an evening of pro-am doubles to benefit the MTEF Tennis, Education and Mentoring (TEAM) youth program.

Thirteen local tennis professionals and Gene Mayer paired up with fourteen amateurs for an exciting evening of doubles, friendly competition, prizes and fun.  Coinciding with the pro-am was a reception which gave everyone the opportunity to watch exciting pro-am doubles, socialize and learn more about MTEF.  Attendees had the opportunity to meet and have their picture taken with Gene Mayer.

Known for his stellar doubles play, Mayer won 15 ATP Doubles titles, including two French Opens, and was the number one ranked doubles player in the world in 1980.  On the Masters Circuit Mayer has won Wimbledon, U.S. Open, and the French Open Championships.

Currently, Mayer is the president of Two Handed Enterprises, a sports marketing firm that he founded in the 1980's.  He and his wife Rhonda live in Mill Neck, NY.  They have two children, Jared and Sarah.
