Mayor's Cup

During the last week of the Summer Tennis & Reading Program, MTEF partners with the MPS Recreation Department and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett to offer a summer-ending junior tennis tournament.  The Mayor's Cup serves as a way for participants to experience match play agains area competitors and players from other MTEF sites.

In conjunction with the Mayor's Cup finals, MTEF sponsored a congratulatory End-of-Summer Picnic and School Supply Drive on Friday, August 8.  All MTEF Summer Tennis & Reading Program participants and their families were invited to enjoy an afternoon of tennis, games, lunch, prizes, and the opportunity to watch the Mayor's Cup finals.  Backpacks filled with school supplies were also given out to all registered participants.  The picnic featured Alderman Willie Wade and Senator Spencer Coggs.  Common Council President Willie Hines also made an appearance earlier that morning.

To further assist in the development of local youth, the Wisconsin Tennis Association sponsors the 2008 Junior Rookie Tour, a series of novice-level junior tournaments that serve as a stepping stone for Wisconsin USTA Sanctioned Tournaments.  These tournaments are a great way for children to be introduced to competitive tennis.  To view the 2008 Rookie Tour Schedule click here.
