Established in 1969 by Arthur Ashe, Charlie Pasarell and Sheridan Snyder, the National Junior Tennis League (NJTL) has had a significant impact on the lives of many of our nation's youth. It seeks to develop the character of young people through tennis using the ideals and life of Ashe to reach out to those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to fully develop their tennis skills. As Milwaukee's official NJTL program, MTEF was formed in 2002 with the goal of providing central-city children a neighborhood-based, free program that combines education, leadership, teamwork, mentoring and life skills with the sport of tennis. Since that time, MTEF has steadily grown to a year-round program offering a pathway of opportunities to Milwaukee's underserved youth. Last year over 4,200 children participated in the TEAM program and we reached the milestone of serving our ten thousandth child.
