Adult tennis lessons and leagues have been an integral part of MTEF. Milwaukee is home to 235 public outdoor tennis courts that are controlled by two organizations – MPS Department of Recreation and Community Service and Milwaukee County Parks.  These outdoor courts are either at schools or in the city and county parks.

Participants come in all ages and ability levels. They range from people getting back into the game and wanting to start playing by brushing up on their skills to beginners who have never played, but have always wanted to try the sport of tennis.

The tennis instructors are hired and trained by MTEF. At the end of each six-week class, the goal for the instructors is that every student has enjoyed the experience and learned enough to keep playing outside of class. Tennis is a lifetime sport. By offering lessons and leagues we hope to make tennis accessible to everyone.

Charlee Goodman
8th Grade First Serve Participant

Charlee wants to be an architect when she grows up; first of all, she wants to attend the University of Pennsylvania. Lofty ambitions for a young lady who hasn’t even graduated from the 8th grade yet! Once you get to know Charlee a little better, you might not want to bet against her.

“Signing Charlee up for MTEF is one of the best things that has happened to her,” stated Charlee’s mom, Vanessa Goodman.  “The First Serve program has improved Charlee’s self-esteem, confidence, and social skills, not to mention how much her tennis has improved.”
